Campus Services Department

Senior Adminstration Parking

As you know, the Dartmouth Campus has begun the implementation of a parking fee for fiscal year 2008.  The rationale for implementation of the parking fee is to assist us in the following:

  • Create a greater sense of security by funding entrance booth personnel, greater police patrol of parking areas, improved lighting, and more extensive shuttle services.
  • Maintain the lots for safety and convenience including, repaving, re-lining, snow removal, etc.
  • Decrease demand for parking spaces and increase campus accessibility by other modes.
  • Fund the establishment of an Office of Parking and Transportation to develop a parking and transportation plan that will increase UMD accessibility and accommodate growth.

Students will be charged beginning September 2007.  Parking fees for faculty and staff covered by collective bargaining agreements are contingent upon the completion of the negotiation process.  As a senior administrator, you will be given the option to purchase a reserve parking space decal at a cost of $500 per year.  This decal will give you access to a single space in close proximity to the building in which you work.  If you do not wish to purchase a reserve parking decal, you must retain your current parking decal which will give you access to parking on a first come first serve basis.

There are two (2) options for purchasing a reserved parking decal:

1.      Payroll Deduction-An employee may authorize the University to withhold an amount on a bi-weekly basis over 26 pay periods.  This withholding shall be handled as a pre-tax deduction.

2.      Lump sum payment-Cash, check, money order or credit card may be used.

If you choose payroll deduction, kindly return the enclosed payroll deduction authorization form to the attention of Betsy Leclair in the Office of Human Resources.  You will receive an e-mail from Human Resources confirming receipt of your payroll deduction authorization form.  This e-mail should be taken to the Public Safety Department where you will be issued your parking decal.  (Public Safety will require you to produce your vehicle registration form).  The Payroll Pre-Tax Deduction form should be returned to Human Resources no later than Friday September 7, 2007.  Strict enforcement shall begin during the week of September 17, 2007.

If you choose the lump sum payment, you must make payment at the Bursar’s Office in the Foster Administration Building.  You will be given a receipt evidencing payment for a parking decal.  This receipt should be taken to the Public Safety Department where you will be issued your parking decal.  (Public Safety will require you to produce your vehicle registration form).  Payment should be made no later than Friday, September 7, 2007.  Strict enforcement shall begin during the week of September 17, 2007.
