LAW 718: Intro to Pension Law & Policy
Prerequisite: LAW 540, 541, 530, & 531
An introduction to ERISA, public pensions, and U.S. pension policy challenges. Topics include ERISAÂ¿s history and structure; types and characteristics of qualified plans; fiduciary duty under ERISA; public pensions; the multiemployer pension funding crisis; lost plans and participants; and obstacles to equitable division of benefits at divorce. The course meets in five three-hour sessions and ends with a final paper.
